NEW DELHI: Congress president Rahul Gandhi has recently indicated that the parties which have the capability to defeat Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) will be supported by Gandhi himself.
Recently while addressing a press conference, a woman journalist asked Rahul Gandhi whether he would support All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee or Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati regarding the Prime Minister face in the upcoming general elections. Rahul Gandhi replied the woman journalist saying that he would back anyone who will defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Rahul Gandhi without disclosing the party’s strategy for the upcoming General Elections said that the party will focus to put a stamp of victory over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Regarding this, he also said that the party is pushing all its limit and is ready to do anything in order to defeat the BJP. The Congress is even looking forward to forming alliances in the two states, he added.
Besides this, Gandhi also said that the party can seek advantage of the two top BJP’s allies – Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Shiv Sena being annoyed with BJP.
“Congress President @RahulGandhi met and interacted with women journalists earlier this evening and what a wonderful interaction it was!” the party posted from the official Twitter handle.
Apart from this, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor while addressing the media said that the party is looking forward in order to form alliances and to work with other parties.
“I was at the Congress Working Committee meeting on Sunday and I can assure you that the mood around the table was unanimously in favour of alliances and working with other parties”, said Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.
On Tuesday, some of the Congress party sources said that, in order to prevent the BJP from holding the power in 2019, the party is at its verge to form pre-poll alliances with various parties in major states.
On whether Rahul Gandhi will step aside for a woman candidate from a possible Opposition alliance, the sources said he “is comfortable seeing any prime minister other than an RSS-backed one”.
Besides this, the Congress after the CWC meeting on Sunday said that the party sees Rahul Gandhi as its prime ministerial face for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
