Telangana and Andhra in a bitter battle over Rio Olympic Silver medalist PV Sindhu

PV Sindhu battled for around two weeks to finally settle for a Silver medal at the recently concluded Rio Olympics 2016. In the final watch, Sindhu desperately lost to Spanish opponent after winning the first set in an uncomfortable way. Sindhu was not at all in good shape during the whole game since she showed a lack of fitness to combat the strong opponent. However, it was certain that even if Sindhu loses, a Silver medal will be waiting for her. The battleground turned backed to India when she returned from Rio. Since Sindhu belongs to Andhra Pradesh, the battle turned out between both Andhra and Telengana. We all know how people from both states clashes each other to split the united Andhra Pradesh by conducting a series of bandhs, violent activities including attacking buses and trains.

Unusual battle to claim Olympic Silver medallist PV Sindhu

After Silver medallist PV Sindhu returned to India, it saw an unusual battle of political one-upmanship between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. This is because both states have claimed that India’s first ever Silver medalist belongs to them. When they fought for a separate state they never thought about this unity. The recent battle itself exposes the serious regional insecurity between the two states.

According to experts, both states are trying to split the divide among each other. This is to ensure that PV Sindhu sticks to a particular state which gives her more money. After PV Sindhu won Silver medal, many state governments have announced cash rewards to the tune of over Rs. 15 lakhs to her.

Politicians claim Sindhu belongs to both states equally

Many people and politicians based in Telangana have claimed that Sindhu is their charm and pride. This is because she was born and brought up in Hyderabad. Moreover, her father is from Telangana.

Meanwhile, people from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh disclosed to the media by stating that her mother is from Vijayawada. Incidentally, both states share Hyderabad as capital till 2024. The two states are trying to take advantage of the ace player by driving rewards for her.

A reward of Rs. 3 crore by Andhra Government

In the meantime, Andhra Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu announced a Rs. 3 crore cash reward along with a 1000 square yard residential plot in AP’s upcoming capital Amaravati. Naidu also offered her Group I officer’s post of special grade deputy collector in the Andhra Pradesh government.
