Pusarla Venkata Sindhu, popularly known as PV Sindhu is currently under the spotlight for being the first woman badminton player from India to win a medal in the Olympics. Last year, the Indian Government awarded her the Padma Shri which is the fourth most respected honor in the country.
She is the youngest Indian to receive this highly prestigious award. She trained very hard for the Rio Olympics, maintaining a controlled diet and refrained from having her favorite foods.
21-year-old PV Sindhu trained under Pullela Gopichand, a former International level badminton player. Gopichand is presently the Chief National Coach of the Indian Badminton Team. He trained Sindhu at his own Gopichand Badminton Academy under his strict supervisions.
The Olympic Diet
The star badminton player trained rigorously for the 2016 Olympics and maintained a stringent diet plan. Gopichand banned her from having any junk food and made her eat only the right amount of specific nutritious items.
PV Sindhu could not have any sweet as sugar delays the recovery process in the body and causes excessive inflammation. She followed Gopichand word by word and managed to achieve the fitness level required for winning the silver medal at Olympic.
Each and every meal of PV Sindhu was meticulously measured and actively supervised to confirm that she was having the right amount of nutrition. The primary challenge while maintaining her diet was that her appetite was far less than what required.
She was forced to have energy rich foods even when she wasn’t hungry enough. Throughout her training, she primarily had energy rich, recovery friendly protein based foods.
PV Sindhu’s Favourite Meals
The favorite food items of the champion athlete include Hyderabadi Biryani, chocolates, sweet curd and ice-creams. Sindhu avoided all her delicacies to bring glory to her country. Her coach also moderated her sleeping patterns and made her maintain a precise schedule for her daily activities.
As she returned home by winning the Olympic medal, her coach has given her the permission to eat whatever she wished. PV Sindhu’s mother prepared her favorite dish, the Hyderabadi Biryani along with some other delicacies upon her arrival at home.
