Rahul Gandhi backtracks, tells Supreme Court RSS did not assassinate Gandhi

DELHI: Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi could be let off the hook from a defamation case after he backtracked from his earlier statement and said to the Supreme Court that he never meant to accuse the institution of RSS of assassinating Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.

The right wing Hindu organization had slapped a defamation case against the son of the former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi for involving the Hindu group with the assassination of the father of the nation. The organization had hinted that it would withdraw the case if Rahul Gandhi absolved the RSS of the killing.

Counsel to Rahul Gandhi, Mr.Kapil Sibal told the esteemed court that his client had never indicted RSS as an institution for the crime. Inferring from the affidavit, the court said that Mr. Gandhi had never accused the organization but a person associated with the Hindu Group.

However, the top court has scheduled the next hearing for September 1 after the RSS counsel sought time to deliberate with his client for further course of action.

Rahul in a Thane rally in March 2014 had said that RSS people had killed Gandhiji and today their associates (BJP) talk of him.

However today he retracted from his statement and said the opposite. The esteemed court had asked him to express regret for his remarks and holding organization for the crime or be ready to face a defamation case. The court took exception to Mr. Gandhi’s statement in which he branded everyone associated with the organization as responsible for the Mahatma’s assassination.

The top court said that if Rahul wanted to defend himself and not express regret, then he will have to face trial. Rahul had moved the Supreme Court in May 2015 for quashing the criminal case lodged against him.

The event has led to the young leader being trolled severely on the social media. Rahul was earlier also trolled when he read from a piece of paper in the parliament. With UP elections round the corner, the Congress has its hands full with trouble and could be one of the reasons for the elevation of Priyanka Gandhi to become the party’s face in UP.

  1. Rahul Gandhi is great liability of this country who is doing destructive politics to create rift among different sections of people. He is incapable and immature to hold any important post in Congress party. He was responsible for humiliating defeats in past assembly elections when Congress lost a number of states. Now that day is not far when Congress will be wiped out all over country. So all Congress leaders should unite and expel him from party. Otherwise all will sink along with Rahul.
