The flip-flop by Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi continues, first stating that he did not accuse the RSS as an institution for Gandhiji’s killing and later retracting and saying that he is ready to face trial for defaming the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS).

Rahul’s lawyer Kapil Sibal is now collecting evidence to firmly link Nathuram Godse with the Sangh. Kapil is also planning to call Rajesh Kunte- an RSS worker from Maharashtra who filed the defamation case against Congress vice-president, Rahul Gandhi for his comments on the Sangh, for cross-examination. Rahul’s legal team has already quoted extensively from a book by Gandhiji’s grandson Tushar Gandhi; it plans to quote from some books in the forthcoming court proceedings to prove Godse’s close association with the RSS.

Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel who is now much revered by the BJP had written to the then RSS Sarsanghachalak M S Golwalker pointing out that RSS men distributed sweets after hearing the news of Bapu’s assassination.

Mr. Sibbal told the Economic Times that he intends to cross examine Mr. Kunte and other senior RSS leaders to expose the double-speak of RSS. He plans to ask uncomfortable questions which Mr. Kunte will not be able to answer quickly and as the trial proceeds, this level of discomfort will increase. Sibbal further added that he wants Mr. Mohan Bhagwat to come to the trial so that the real face of RSS is known.

Nathuram Godse was a diehard member of the Hindu Maha Sabha and was also a member of RSS. The RSS maintains a link with all the right-wing organization like the Shiv Sena, Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Durga Vauhani, etc.

It cannot be denied that RSS is the reservoir from where all the above-mentioned organizations extract their members. The above fact was also pointed out by Nehru in his letter to Sardar Patel, who was the Home Minister on 28 February 1948 hinting that Gandhiji’s assassination was a part of a much wider conspiracy by the RSS.
