Just when Onam is being celebrated by Malayalees all over the world, BJP President Amit Shah has created a controversy by branding Onam as Vamana Jayanthi. He also posted a picture which shows Vamana placing his head over the King Mahabali on his official Facebook page.

While few people accept the fact that Onam is indeed Vamana Jayanthi, the political leaders belonging to ruling Left front has strongly criticized Shah’s post. Commenting on the development, G Sudhakaran, Kerala PWD Minister said that Shah’s comment shows his mind towards the people of Kerala. He also opposed the way in which he depicted the greetings.

However, Amit Shah posted a new Facebook post on his wall with Onam greetings in Malayalam language showcasing the traditional Kerala boat and an image of Kathakali.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also strongly opposed the Facebook post of Amit Shah. He added that the BJP president has insulted the people of Kerala.

However, Kerala BJP State President Kummam Rajashekaran defended Amit Shah’s Facebook post and said that there is nothing wrong. The history is the fact and it can’t be manipulated.

Onam festival is being celebrated today by Malayalees all over the world. In fact, there are four Onams. The main Onam falls on the “Thirvonam” star. The fourth Onam falls on “Chathayam” star on September 16.

In the meantime, several political personalities and film actors greeted the people all over the world on the occasion of Onam. Mohanlal, film actor took to his Facebook page and posted a short video with greetings in Malayalam.
