Most popular chat messaging service, Whatsapp has rolled out an update to its Android and iOS app. The new update allows the users to send documents over chats.
Users can update their existing Whatsapp Messenger via Google Play and the App Store – Android v2.12.453 and iOS v2.12.4, respectively. The feature isn’t showing to all the users with the latest android app installed from Google Play. However, most of the users reported that they have enabled it by installing Whatsapp v2.12.489 from the company’s official website.
As of now users are able to send pdf files only but it is expected that the company will soon expand the range in future. Apart from the document sending facility, the company also introduces a bunch of other features with the update.
The previously seen Photo and Video sending options are now combined to the Camera to protect the space as a new option is added to the tray. Users will be able to see shared Documents alongside Media and the newly-added Links tab.
It is worth to note that if a user wants to send a document to his friend who hasn’t updated its messenger yet then there in no possible way to complete the task, until he gets the latest version. Also, the document sharing feature was working fine when it was tested to send a small pdf file from Android v2.12.489 app to iOS v2.12.14 app.
Additionally, WhatsApp v2.12.453 for Android also features 100 new emojis, Google Drive Backup for chats and media, support for 5 new languages, and is now is compatible with Android 6.0 Marshmallow permissions, the company said at the Google Play listing.
On the other hand, WhatsApp for iOS v2.12.4, which is available at App Store, allows users to send photos or videos from other apps such asGoogle Drive, Dropbox, or Microsoft OneDrive. To enjoy the facility, all you have to do is just open “Photo/Video Library” and tap “Choose from another app…” to share files.
It also enables users to pick a solid color from the set provided, for the chat background. Apart from the improved design of the iOS messaging app for browsing photos and videos, users can even zoom in on videos while they are playing.
The newly added features aren’t ending here, the company is serving a lot more to the iOS users as after getting updated the users will be able to see the “blue ticks” directly from the main Whatsapp chat list. Previously, to check whether the other party has read the message or not, the user needed to tap on the chat to open the thread.
