On Monday, two persons were arrested after they were found exchanging a plan to allegedly kill defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman over the WhatsApp. The police reported that both the persons were drunk at the time of planning out the murder of defence minister. The police department revealed the information when the minister paid a visit to Dharchula town in the district of Uttarakhand.
As per the sources, the police got alerted about the WhatsApp messages on Sunday at 9.30 pm. And as soon as the information landed the police station, the department got into action and the two have been arrested under section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 66 of the Information Technology (IT) Act, Pithoragarh SP Ramchandra Rajguru said.
“We were alerted to the chat (about killing the defence minister) on a WhatsApp group at 9.30 pm on Sunday. We identified two persons between whom the chat was taking place and arrested them Monday morning ahead of the defence minister’s arrival here,” he said.
The controversial message sent by one of the arrested duos reads as “Main shoot karunga Sitharaman ko, Kal uska akhiri din Hoga. (I will shoot Sitharaman, tomorrow will be her last day)”, police said.
Pithoragarh SP Ramchandra Rajguru also conveyed that the convicts are being examined for the criminal background and possession of arms and ammunition. Besides this, the credentials of the admin of the WhatsApp group on which the convicts were found planning the murder are also being looked into, Rajguru added.
As per the sources, defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in order to inaugurate a medical camp visited Dharchula town on Monday. The mega medical camp which was to be organized by the defence minister was organised by the Army on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. The birthday of PM Modi was celebrated as ‘Seva Diwas’, sources added.
