Recently many news were floating with regards to the Reliance Jio’s Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) service. But nobody has a concrete idea about this service. The Chairman, Mukesh Ambani has given some sign during the launch of 4G services in September last year. Recently, he has mentioned about this service during its annual result event. Until now, everything was like a closed book; nobody had any idea. But now it is crystal clear as the company has revealed the cities in which its FTTH trials are being run. It seems that after cementing the cellular business, the company is looking forward to the broadband service.

This news came as a surprise when customer care’s twitter handler revealed the name of the cities where the trials are being run. These cities are Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Ahmedabad, Jamnagar, Surat, and Vadodara. Further, the team has added that the company is planning to roll out FTTH service to other cities as well. However, they have not revealed any names apart from those listed above. A Twitter user in September had tweeted that trial would run in Pune as well. Since this was an unknown user,  we cannot believe on this. It may be true as well.

Users who had early access to FTTH service had tweeted about this service in the past. One user based in Mumbai had reported that on 1 Gbps connection the download speed is between 70 Mbps to 100 Mbps per second. As per the reports, this service is free for 90 days. The users had to pay a one-time refundable fee of Rs. 4,000 – 4,500. This fee is for JioFiber router.

During the September AGM, Ambani has mentioned that the wired JioFiber connection will not be just for home users. This service will be available for enterprises as well. He further added that they would launch this service in 100 Indian cities.

Few of us must have spotted the home broadband service listed on its quick recharge page. However, no details are found on its website as of now.

The company officials have not commented on its official launch date. However, we can expect the free service during trials just like free voice and data service of Jio. This is again alarming news for all other players in the market like ACT Fibernet. As per the TRAI reports, Jio is listed as the leading service provider of broadband connections in India. So get ready to access the high-speed internet at very nominal cost.
