New Delhi: Recently, Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) announced that in the last three financial years the sale of Khadi products has increased three-fold. The government run body also announced that soon a train will be run in order to create awareness about Khadi prodcuts with the name ‘Khadi Express’ train.
As per the reports from our news sources, in 2014-15 the turnover of Khadi was Rs 811 and in 2017-18 it increased to Rs 2,509 crore.
KVIC chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena was quoted in the agency report saying, “We have written a letter to Indian Railways for running a Khadi Express train which would exhibit Khadi products linked with Mahatma Gandhi in view of his 150th birth anniversary.”
Reports says that the ‘Khadi Express’ train will be a five-bogie train and it will provide the facility to sell Khadi products to the people. The train will provide Khadi selling facilities to the destinations where Mahatma Gandhi had stayed. The train will be stationed at such stations for one day in order to sell Khadi to the people, the report added.
The fair of the ‘Khadi Express’ train has been kept as Rs 10 per person.
Railway Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted about it saying, “After a 4-fold jump in the sale of Khadi products owing to PM @NarendraModi’s appeal to the masses, Railways will run a ‘Khadi Express’ train, with a facility to exhibit & sell the products while covering places associated with the life of Mahatma Gandhi.”
Chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena also talked about the increase in the sale of Khadi products from the year 2004 to 2014. He said that each year, the sale of the Khadi products grew at a rate of about 6.68 per cent till 2014. And from past four years this rate has been incraesed to 37 per cent per year.
