After the removal of the statue of Jawaharlal Nehru from Balson crossing in Allahabad, the Congress workers have come up on the streets in order to protest against the action that has been taken by the government. The statue has been removed from Balson crossing which is hardly 200 metres from Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s ancestral house of Anand Bhawan.
In order to shift the statue of Jawaharlal Nehru to a park which is nearby Balson crossing and is hardly 30 metres away, a hydra crane was used. And the decision regarding the shift of the statue from its existing pedestal to a nearby park was taken by the Allahabad Development Authority, said sources.
The statue of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was shifted on Thursday evening.
After the action being protested by the Congress workers, one of the ADA spokesperson revealed that the decision regarding the shift of the statue to the nearby park which was 30meters away was taken in order to redesign the Balson crossing and for the construction work which will take place for widening the road in view of the approaching Kumbh 2019.
As per the sources, the party workers unnecessarily opposed the decision regarding the shift of the statue and questioned the Allahabad Development Authority that why the statue of Deen Dayal Upadhyay which is on the very next crossing is not being removed or shifted following the same purpose.
On the other hand, the ADA spokesperson Defending the decision by the authority said that the re-designing was being done by an independent organisation called UMTC. While the District Magistrate and the Divisional Commissioner were not available at that time in order to comment on the situation.
Regarding this, UPCC president Raj Babbar tweeted that the move taken by the Allahabad Development Authority is “unjust” and it should be “condemned”.
