NEW DELHI: On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two national highways that have been constructed in Varanasi at a cost of Rs. 1,571.95 crore. Prime Minister Modi is also scheduled to launch inland waterways terminal on river Ganga.
“Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation, two important national highways in Varanasi, having a total length of 34 kilometres and constructed at a cost of Rs.1,571.95 crore on Monday, the 12th of November, 2018,” Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said in a statement today.
As per the reports, it took Rs.759.36 crore to construct the 16.55 km Varanasi Ring Road Phase-I, while Rs. 812.59 crores were spent in order to complete the work of four-laning and construction of 17.25 km Babatpur-Varanasi road on NH-56.
Several other faces that will accompany Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, UP Governor Ram Naik, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari. The event in Varanasi Uttar Pradesh will take place in the afternoon at Ring Road Tiraha, Hardua.
With the Babatpur Airport highway, Varanasi will now be linked to the airport and the route will go on to Jaunpur, Sultanpur and Lucknow. With a flyover at Harhua and a railway overbridge (ROB) at Tarna, the road will reduce the travel time from Varanasi to the airport.
Besides this, easier and more convenient access to Sarnath will be provided by the ring road which will reduce travel time, fuel usage and pollution in the area. Sarnath is said to be an important site for Buddhist pilgrimage.
The statement by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways also stated that the above projects will offer job opportunities and development of small and medium industries. Besides this, the project will and give a boost to economic development in the area.
“There are currently NH projects of total length 2,833 km, costing Rs. 63,885 crore underway to link Varanasi to other places in Eastern Uttar Pradesh. Of these fifteen road projects of 1,143-kilometre length are under various stages of construction. These include Varanasi-Jaunpur, Varanasi – Sultanpur, Sultanpur-Lucknow, Varanasi Ghaghra Bridge, Varanasi-Azamgarh among others,” the statement added.
An estimated amount of Rs. 30,227 crore is supposed to be spent on the projects, while approximately Rs. 8,265 crore will be spent on the other seven targeted projects of 235 km.
