Yesterday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the state laid the foundation stone of a Rail Coach Refurbishing Karkhana at Sonepat in Haryana.  As per the sources, the establishment of the Rail Coach Refurbishing Karkhana will take place under the ‘Make in India initiative’ by the NDA government. This upcoming project will be a major industrial initiative in the state by the government. The project will not only provide the repair facilities but maintenance of the train coaches of Indian Railways will also be looked upon.

A periodical overhaul (POH) and a refurbishment of no less than 250 railway coaches will be witnessed by the state per year after the establishment of the Rail Coach Refurbishing Karkhana at Sonepat.

As per the recent reports, the new establishment will hold all modern machinery that will be required to serve the purpose. Besides this, the rail coach factory will also have the environment-friendly plant. The upcoming unit will not only generate more employment for the people of the state but also favour the development of the state and will boost the railway sector as well. The Northern Railway Zone of the Indian Railways will look after the new establishment, sources revealed.

Meanwhile, a senior railway official recently said, “the Modern Coach Factory is planning to increase its production capacity from 1000 railway coaches per annum to 2000 railway coaches. It has proposed an investment of an amount of Rs 480 crore for the expansion.”

The railway official further added that Indian Railways is planning to manufacture 2000 railway coaches per year by 2020-2021. This plan of the national transporter is awaiting the sanction of the Railway Board. Indian Railways has a Modern Coach Factory (MCF) located at Lalganj near Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh.
