On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the world’s largest statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Gujarat. During the inaugural ceremony, PM Modi said that this tallest monument is a token of love which has been constructed to remind the courageous personality of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel to stand straight against all the odd circumstances.
The world’s largest memorial named as the ‘Statue of Unity’ is erected on Sadhu Bet Island near Sardar Sarovar Dam which is in Gujarat’s Narmada district. The largest memorial is of double the height of the Statue of Liberty in the US and it is taller than the spring temple Buddha in China. PM Modi has decided to build the monument while he was positioned as Gujrat Chief Minister and he started the foundation stone for the monument in the year 2013.
The inaugural ceremony on Wednesday was organized on the occasion of the 143rd birth anniversary of Sardar Patel, described also as an Ironman of India. The occasion was graced by Gujarat Governor O P Kohli, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and BJP chief Amit Shah along with several other important leaders of Gujarat. Cultural programmes were also organized and the striking part about the occasion is a flypast by Air Force planes and helicopters. The overall cost of the statue is Rs. 2,989 crore and it is 182 meters long and has a base of 25 meters.
Those people who questioned about the existence of India will get an answer now that this country will always remain eternal, Said PM Modi. The world’s largest memorial is a tribute to the person who was courageous, capable and did the divine work of keeping the whole nation together without letting it fall into pieces.
PM Modi also said that the Statue of Unity is the foundation of unity and by following these opinions we should march…and march with a vision to make the nation ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ (One India, Superior India).
PM Modi’s initial desire was to carve out a statue from a rock near the dam, but after doing some research he got to know that the rocks are not very strong. Hence, he came up with this idea of building a statue with the help of concrete, steel, and bronze
