SINGAPORE: Today Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Singapore in order to attend the East Asia Summit and other such meets in the country. Prime Minister Modi is on his two-day visit to the country. During his visit, he will also attend the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership summit, an ASEAN-India informal meet and will hold a meeting with US Vice President Mike Pence before flying back to India.

Recently Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) mentioned in a tweet that the first thing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be engaged after reaching Singapore will be to deliver the keynote address at the Singapore Fintech Summit

“The Prime Minister landed in Singapore a short while ago. He will be joining a series of programmes through the day, beginning with the keynote address at the Singapore Fintech Festival,” PMOIndia@PMOIndia said.

Later, in a tweet, the PM thanked the Indian community for a “warm welcome amidst the rain”.

“Extremely touched by the affection of the Indian community in Singapore. Their warm welcome, so early in the morning amidst the rain, was touching. India’s diaspora makes our nation very proud. They have succeeded all over the world, in a wide range of areas,” he tweeted.

In New Delhi, before leaving for Singapore, PM Modi addressed the news reporters and discussed about the summit that he will be attending in Singapore. Modi said that his participation in the ASEAN-India and East Asia summits signifies that India is committed to strengthening its engagement and relations with ASEAN members and with the wider Indo-Pacific region.

PM Modi before leaving to Singapore also asserted that his visit to Singapore in order to attend the East Asia Summit and other such meets in the country will help the national capital to grow its partnership with ASEAN and East Asia Summit nations.

In Singapore, PM Modi is scheduled for numerous high-profile multilateral and bilateral meetings. Modi will attend the meetings in the presence of global leaders including US Vice President Pence and Singapore premier Lee Hsien Loong.

Besides this, the White House on Tuesday said that Pence will participate in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Modi in Singapore. The White House even informed that the main motive of the meeting will be the discussions over bilateral defence cooperation and to come up with a common vision for maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific.
