The Paytm Company owner’s secretary Sonia Dhawan, who was arrested this week along with her husband Roopak Jain against the case of extortion of Rs 20 crores from the owner of the company, was a very sincere employee. Described as a workaholic she was also faithful to her employers. Three employees of the company including Sonia Dhawan and her husband were taken to the police custody for allegedly trying to extort crores of rupees from the owner of the Paytm Company.
As per the family members of Sonia Dhawan, she was performing her job and was the company’s most well-known face apart from founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma. They said it seems impossible and also difficult to explain why she would want to extort money from a company to which she was devoting her 100%.
Sonia Dhwan’s mother said that after Vijay Shekhar Sharma, my daughter was the face of Paytm. Whether it was a new firm launch party or new policies or receiving awards on behalf of the company, she was presented everywhere and also worth every bit of it, said Sonia Dhawan’s mother.
Sonia Dhawan and her husband along with another Paytm employee were arrested on Monday against a case filed by the owner of the company for allegedly blackmailing and making extortion bid on him and have been sent to court custody for two weeks. The charges against them comprise stealing of the important and personal data of the company. Dhawan was positioned as a vice president and head of the company’s corporate communications department.
Rupali who is a sister of Sonia Dhawan said that the family has suspected that some employees from the company who are Sonia’s competitor are also involved in the matter and they are framing her. Rupali said that Sonia was quite upset from the past few weeks and she told her that how a colleague was playing dirty politics to delay her promotion. Also, she said that her sister was opposing the continuous pressure to sell her stakes in the firm.
Ajay Pal Sharma, senior superintendent of police (Gautam Budh Nagar) said that the proof against Sonia is just the confessional statement of an arrested employee named Devendra Kumar who was heading the administration department of Paytm. However, Sonia was the only employee who has the access of all the personal information about the owner, said the SSP.
He further added that the data being used for extortion contains Sharma’s personal account and card details only. He said that they did not have any important data of the company or the customers. They were perhaps trying to extort money by frightening Sharma about having some other important data than they actually had, said the SSP.
