The Osmania University denied for the Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s interaction with students on the varsity campus due to security reasons. The interaction to be held on 14th August was denied by the Osmania officials stating that Mr. Gandhi was a high profile dignity and the university won’t be able to provide high-level security.

The University Registrar Ch Gopal Reddy: “We declined the permission on security grounds. Since he (Rahul Gandhi) is a person under ‘Z’ plus category security cover, we will not be able to provide security for him. Some students are opposing his visit while some welcome him. It may also lead to tension during his visit. So we told them (the group of students) about our inability to provide enough security for his visit”.

Registrar Ch Gopal Reddy said they don’t have any provisions for the security of Congress leader. They would only reconsider the invitation send by some students, only if police and security forces ensure them for Gandhi’s security.

The Telangana leader N Uttam Kumar Reddy, had already informed about the visit of leader at the Campus. Some students had invited Mr. Gandhi and had forwarded the letter to vice-chancellor and police to grant permission for the same. He blamed that some senior leaders of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) were involved behind the denial of the visit as they did not favour the visit of Rahul Gandhi.

Student leaders who forwarded the letter were not happy with the verdict of University and said that they would knock the door of high court’s house motion on Saturday to get the permission for the visit of the Congress leader.

All party leaders are trying to connect people for the coming elections. The meeting and strategies are made to attract the people to vote for them. The Osmania University is termed as the hotbed of the separate Telangana protest.
