Like a head of a family, Narendra Modi reviewed the progress card of the key infrastructure sectors of power, renewable energy, petroleum and natural gas, coal, and mining.
The 120 minutes long meeting held for evaluation was attended by the NITI Ayog, Prime Minister and officials from infrastructure-related Ministries.
The NITI Ayog shared the success story, the electricity deficiency in India had reduced to less than one per cent which was more than four per cent earlier. Installed power generation capacity of India had extended to 344 GW in which renewable energy provide shares of around 70 GW meanwhile green energy and solar energy accounts for 22 GW.
The Prime Minister asked the officials to make the benefits of the increase in solar energy capacity accessible to the farmers via different and suitable interventions like solar cooking and solar pumps.
India has improved its rank and is placed at 26th in the World Bank’s “Ease of Getting Electricity” Index. It shifted its rank from 99th to 26th in Index. Officials also claimed that India will conveniently succeed in the Prime Minister Modi’s target of 175 GigaWatts renewable energy capacity by 2022.
The combined installed capacity has increased two times in new and renewable energy sector. It has increased from 35.5 GigaWatts in 2013-14, to about 70 GigaWatts in 2017-18. Similarly, the progress card of the solar energy sector is also appreciable as it increased from 2.6 GigaWatts to 22 GigaWatts in the same period.
The targets set under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana for the petroleum and natural gas sector will be grabbed in the current financial year.
Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana – ‘Saubhagya’, was part of the discussion in the meeting. Development and efficient use of coal sector were the keywords of the discussion.
The meeting also discussed for providing last mile connectivity and delivery, in both urban and rural areas.
The Ujjwala Yojana was an initiative to provide free LPG connection to people living under below poverty line. The Yojana inaugurated by Narendra Modi on 1 May 2016 ensures the good health of female and reduces the casuality percentage .
