In Meerut, the MLA of Bhartiya Janta Party from Sardhana constituency has made a demand which says that Muzaffarnagar district should be renamed to Laxminagar.
Speaking to media, the BJP lawmaker Sangeet Singh Som said, “Names of many districts have to be changed by us. People are demanding that Muzaffarnagar district should be renamed as Laxminagar. Muzaffarnagar name was given by a Nawab named Muzaffar Ali and a lot of local residents are against this name. Mughals during their rule have eradicated the Indian culture. Hindutva have been their main target. The BJP is trying to safeguard our culture,” added Som.
The statement from the BJP lawmaker Sangeet Singh Som came one day after another BJP lawmaker Jagan Prasad Garg demanded that Agra should be renamed to Agravan.
On the other hand, during Diwali celebrations Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath renamed Faizabad district to Ayodhya. The demand to change the name for Faizabad district to Ayodhya was made by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and saints since last few years, say sources.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also renamed Allahabad district as Prayagraj ahead of the Kumbh Mela in the year 2019.
