Today is the most important day for Mr Stalin as he will swear to carry on the legacy and responsibilities of the Annadurai founded party-Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
Mr Stalin is the third child of DMK patriarch late Karunanidhi and his second wife. Mr Krunanidhi called him as a political heir.
Political analyst Sampath Kumar said “Karunanidhi was a Chanakya who embraced everyone in the party and kept all the district secretaries and key members of the party happy. He had great support from party cadre. Stalin has to follow the same. He has to be careful and include Alagiri in the party. Stalin should keep all district secretaries in good humour and include newcomers. Otherwise, he will find it difficult to tread the political path in the absence of a charismatic leader like Karunanidhi. I think Stalin will be a good leader. He would prove to be a good leader.”
Mr Kumar even appreciated and said that Mr Stalin had taken bold steps when he was major for less than two years. He had a great administrative ability and was a good Mayor during his job.
Mr Stalin was born and brought up under the shadow of politics. He was provided with an opportunity and was launched by his father. In 1977, during an emergency, he was arrested under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act. Later in 1989, he won a seat in Assembly elections.
Stalin was arrested under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act during the Emergency in 1977. Twelve years later, he won a seat in the 1989 Assembly elections.
Senior Journalist said that the coming election of 2019 would be the real test of Stalin as he had to get minimum of 30 seats for the DMK as oppositions were pulling in different direction. Mr Stalin had not tasted electoral success under his leadership so he would be under very serious pressure to deliver the positive outcome. Mr Stalin had to keep the flock together.
On 93rd birthday of former Chief Minister Mr Karunanidhi, Mr Stalin invited major party leader except for BJP. The approach for bringing all big leader under one platform was considered as a masterstroke by the working president.
Mr Stalin was appointed as deputy chief minister when Karunanidhi acknowledged him as his successor. Mr Stalin has broken the trend of veshti and adopted formal shirts and pants, and rode a bicycle wearing a pair of sports shoes and sunglasses which gave him popularity.
DMK had lost the 2016 elections but it appeared as a single-largest party.
