Stepping to make clean and green India, Prime Minister of India Mr Narendra Modi announced that ‘Swachhata Hi Seva Movement’ would commence on September 15 on Wednesday. He urged countrymen to become a part of the Clean India movement and pay tribute to Father of the Nation on his birth anniversary by being the part of the swacchata mission.
Mr Modi tweeted “The ‘Swachhata Hi Seva Movement’ commences on 15th September. This is a great way to pay tributes to Bapu. Come, be a part of this movement and strengthen the efforts to create a Swachh Bharat!”
Mr Modi Further added “At 9:30 AM on 15th, we shall come together and mark the commencement of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva Movement.’ I look forward to interacting with those who have worked assiduously on the ground to strengthen the Swachh Bharat Mission after which Swachhata activities will begin.”
Modi shared about the successful approach for Swachh Bharat Mission and said that the mission has completed four years and it has been historic mass movement on Bapu’s anniversary. He said that October 2 would be the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and would also resemble the completion of 4 years Swachh Bharat Mission as a historic mass movement aimed at fulfilling Bapu’s dream of a Clean India. He appreciated the efforts of all those who had been working for Swachh Bharat.
Mr Modi continued his words and said that it was the approach of the people to fulfil Bapu’s dream of clean India and today 8.5 crores of toilets, which was not a small number, had been made across the country. People had done more than their capability to make this movement successful. Before 2014, only 40 per cent of Indians had toilet facility but today 90 per cent people are accessing toilets.
Measuring the success of the Swaccha Bharat Mission till now, Mr Modi shared that more than 4.25 lakhs of Villages, 430 Zilas, 2800 Cities and towns, and 19 states had been declared Open Defecation Free (ODF). He was pleased to inform about the data shared by the World Health Organisation (WHO) which stated that Swaccha Bharat Mission had saved almost 3 lakhs of minors by enabling them to use toilets.
Modi further said: “I urge all people of our country, including schoolchildren, college students, women, NSS, NCC, Nehru Yuva Kendra, self-help organisations, housing societies, government officials, widely popular faces of our country, and even media groups to start planning for the day from now.”
