According to a recent news, the passengers while travelling with Indian Railways will not be required to carry physical copies of their identify proofs as a part of their journey, as Indian Railways are coming up with a new technology in their trains named as ‘DigiLocker’. The DigiLocker’ will store the soft copies of passengers id’s such as Aadhaar and driving license, as per the news source.
Regarding this, the Indian Railways also said that with the use of this digital technology only these two passenger id’s which are Aadhaar and driving licence will be treated as a proper identity source while travelling with Indian Railways.
“If a passenger shows Aadhaar or driving licence from the ‘issued documents’ section by logging into his DigiLocker account, the same should be considered as valid proof of identity. However, the documents uploaded by the passenger himself in the uploaded documents section will not be considered as valid proof of identity”, the order said.
Digilocker, which will now be used to store soft copies of driving licences and Aadhaar was at first introduced during Narendra Modi government as a part of Digital India drive. Besides this DigiLocker was also launched by the government in order to provide registration facilities to individuals using their Aadhaar number.
Being a pretty much useful technology Digilockers can be used for document verification purposes in order to get rid of the physical copies for the same. With Digilockers, users have to first register themselves; they are then provided with a DigiLocker account along with a cloud storage space that is linked to their Aadhaar (UIDAI) number.
The DigiLocker website states, “Organisations that are registered with Digital Locker can push electronic copies of documents and certificates (e.g. driving licence, voter ID, school certificates) directly into citizens lockers. Citizens can also upload scanned copies of their legacy documents in their accounts. These legacy documents can be electronically signed using the eSign facility.”
Besides its use in Indian Railways regarding soft copies storage, the technology can be used to upload various personal and business documents like mutual funds, shares, insurance, medical reports, PAN card, passport, tax papers, birth and marriage certificates as well, with a maximum file size of 10 Mb.
Below are the following benefits provided by DigiLocker:
With this technology, registered users can pretty much easy access their personal and business documents anywhere and any time with a facility of sharing them online. Digilocker besides saving the time of its users provides them convenience as well. The benefits go on as Digital Locker has made the process of authentication of documents much easier than before.
