On Friday, a senior official from Indian Railways said that Tejas Express, which will be the second feature-rich superfast train of the Indian Railways will run on tracks between Chennai and Madurai.

The government official further informed that the superfast train will have fully air-conditioned coaches which will be equipped with all modern facilities and latest technologies. These will include, modular toilets, smart windows, modern entertainment system, and GPS-based passenger information system among others. The train has been manufactured and equipped with the necessary features here at the Integral Coach Factory, added the official.

“This is the first time that we have manufactured an ultra-modern train for Tamil Nadu,” the ICF official said at the launch of the swanky coaches.

“The first Tejas train is being operated between Mumbai and Goa since last year. The second train was initially earmarked for the Northern Railway, but had now been allotted to the Southern Railway,” the Railway official added.

The official further informed our news sources that the train will be operated in the busy Chennai-Madurai route but there was no information being provided by the official regarding the launch date and the schedule of the second feature-rich superfast train of the Indian Railways. The Railway official said that the Southern Railway will announce the launch date and schedule of the train later.

Adding more to the information the official revealed that the train will have 23 chair car and executive class coaches. All the coaches of the train will have LED lights, fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) interior panels, luxurious seats, modular toilets, smart windows with motor-operated Venetian blinds, automatic doors in the passenger area and sliding coach doors. The official asserted that the normal chair car will have 78 seats while the executive class will have 56 seats.
