The Digital Streaming Platform Hotstar has announced a new subscription package for sports fans. The name of the offer is ‘sports-only subscription’. The offer is available all across the country for Rs.299 a year. This is the first time that any digital streaming platform has unveiled such an offer. Earlier offers included other channels too. The cricket fans have welcomed the offer because of upcoming IPL 2018 tournament. Here, it is worth mentioning that Star Sports has received the broadcast rights of the tournament. IPL 2018 is going to start on 7th April. Both Star Sports and Hotstar will broadcast the whole tournament.

The viewers will not only watch this IPL, but also all the other tournaments licensed by Star India for about Rs. 25 only. This offer is even more beneficial than standard Hotstar subscription. The standard Hotstar subscription is available at Rs. 199 per month and covers almost all movies and TV shows. This subscription will also include Asia Cup 2018 tournament. It is also important to mention that Star India is trying to get the broadcast rights of Indian cricket till 2023.

The subscription also includes English Premier League, AFC Cup, Indian Super League, and I-League in football category. There are Wimbledon, French Open aka, US Open, and Roland Garros in tennis category. Badminton tournaments, Formula 1, and Pro Kabaddi are also in this subscription package. All this will be available at Rs. 299 a year. The viewers are upset not to have FIFA World Cup 2018 in this subscription. The broadcast rights for this tournament are with Sony Entertainment India.

This shows the lack of experience of the Hotstar. Although their experience in sports category has increased, yet TV shows and Film experience has increased. Another thing regretting for the viewers is that they cannot watch the channels in 4K and also in the 1080p video. Hotstar is available only in 720p video.
