NEW DELHI: On Tuesday, a former IAS officer of the Odisha cadre, Aparajita Sarangi joined Bhartiya Janta Party in the national capital ahead of the elections. The former IAS officer joined the party in the presence of BJP chief Amit Shah.

After Ms Aparajita Sarangi joined the party, she was then introduced to the members of the Bhartiya Janta Party by the party president in the presence of senior leaders and union minister Dharmendra Pradhan at his own residence. Among others, state in-charge Arun Singh and Party chief of the Odisha unit, Basant Panda were also present on the occasion.

“I want to work for people on a very large scale. Politics is the only platform which provides this kind of opportunity for me. The party’s motto and leader made me choose BJP, which not only assures development but ensures speed in development,” Ms Sarangi told reporters after she joined the BJP on Tuesday in the presence of several senior leaders of the party.

After joining the party, Ms Sarangi was welcomed in BJP by Dharmendra Pradhan. Mr Pradhan said that the experience in administration of Ms Sarangi will benefit the party in future and will help in strengthening the party as well.

Mr Pradhan took the welcoming occasion of former IAS officer of the Odisha cadre, Aparajita Sarangi to twitter and mentioned her in one of his posts.

“I welcome her to the BJP family. Her experience in administration especially in improving school and mass education in Odisha will greatly strengthen the state BJP,” tweeted Mr Pradhan.

Ms Sarangi was an IAS officer from the 1994 batch and she was serving as the Joint Secretary of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Actor MGNREGA, under the Ministry of Rural Development. Ms Sarangi took the voluntary retirement from her service on 15th of September.
