A big relief comes to the Lalu Yadav as the Delhi’s Patiala House Court granted bail to all accused involved in 2006 IRCTC hotels maintenance contract scam. The bail was granted on Friday to former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi and her son and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.
This brings a huge relief for the supremo of RJD as he is already serving jail terms for being involved in fodder scam-related cases.
The bail was granted after furnishing a personal bond along with a surety amount of Rs 1 lakh each.
The CBI came into an action after the bail was granted to the RJD chief and asked the court to issue a production warrant against RJD chief Lalu Yadav.
Former Union minister Prem Chand Gupta and his wife Sarla Gupta, then IRCTC director Rakesh Saxena, then managing director of IRCTC PK Goyal, then group general managers of IRCTC VK Asthana and RK Goyal, Vinay Kochhar and both directors of Sujata Hotels and owners of Chanakya Hotel were also named in the charge sheet along with Mr Yadav and his family.
The CBI had filed the case on 16 April and said that there was enough evidence against Lalu, Rabri, Tejashwi and others involved in the scam. CBI has also registered the case against Lara Projects, and Sujata Hotels Private Limited also.
The charges filed by the CBI include criminal conspiracy (120-B), cheating (420) under IPC and corruption.
The Bihar former Chief Minister could not appear before the Patiala House Court as he is serving jail terms in Ranchi. The special Judge Arun Bhardwaj even issued a production warrant against Lalu Prasad Yadav for producing him on October 6.
The court had earlier asked the Yadav family and other accused to appear before it on August 31 in connection with the case.
Mr Yadav is charged in different cases for various scams. He is even involved in five fodder scam cases. Recently, he was admitted to Mumbai hospital due to health issues.
