In the recent extortion case against the Paytm, it seems that the data which was stolen contain vital information which can lead to obstructing the company’s image if leaked to the public. The total data which was stolen is more than 128 GB and contains about 1000 pages, Said Manoj Pant, station house officer, Sector 20 police station.
The leaked data involved passwords, encrypted emails, the PIN of Paytm accounts and cash cards used by its CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma. Besides this, the business plans of the company, new policies and as well as financial contracts of the company were also the part of the leaked data which would have spoiled the image of Paytm if released in public.
SSP of Gautam Budh Nagar AjayPal Sharma said that we are straining the data with the help of the cyber cell officers. The data has some important passwords along with other important things.
The company has given a statement to the media in which it said that the customer’s personal data is fully protected. According to the statement by the company, “all our customer data is confined to the highest and most impassable levels of security. The law enforcement authorities are examining this issue and we trust the police investigation also we will not give any opinion till the investigation will be closed by the police.”
The Police is trying to figure out if the data involves any personal details of the customers. “There is a lot of data and we are straining it carefully,” said Sharma. Police have arrested all three employees of the company Sonia Dhawan, her husband Roopak Jain and Devendra Kumar. But the police is not able to track down the fourth person Rohit Chomal which too is involved in the case and is a resident of Kolkata. He was the one who made an extortion call for money.
Sharma further added that the Noida police is in continuous contact with the Kolkata police and they hope to nab Chomal soon. The SHO said that Devendra had recently visited Kolkata where he might have met Chomal. He added that Sonia and her husband Roopak Jain were stealing the data since last two years.
As per the sources, Sonia’s husband Roopak Jain was going through a loss in his real estate business. The fourth person Chomal was also involved to get money because he was also failing in his coal business.
In the starting, Chomal had asked for ₹30 crore from Paytm Chiefs Vijay Shekhar and his brother Ajay Shekhar. Later on, he came down to ₹20 crore and then to ₹10 crore. He later shared some of the important passwords to gain the confidence that he was having access to the crucial data of the company, Said SSP Sharma.
