In another first, Apple on Thursday sent out media invites for a March 21 event at the company’s Cupertino headquarters in California. With an invite tagline, “Let us loop you in”, the company is expected to launch the 4-inch iPhone SE, 9.7-inch iPad Pro, new Apple Watch bands, software updates, and much more.
It is interesting to note that the March 21 launch event is being held a day before Apple’s hearing against the US federal authorities over a government order to unlock an iPhone to help FBI and other intelligence agencies access potential data of one of the San Bernardino shooters.
According to the rumours floating in the market, the iPhone SE for the first time will sport a smaller 4-inch display size and most of the specifications almost similar to the iPhone 6s. Based on preliminary leaks, The device is powered by the current flagship A9 SoC chipset and M9 coprocessor and is expected to support features like Apple Pay and Live Photos which were introduced with iOS 9 last year. The device won’t get 3D Touch, which will remain exclusive to the iPhone 6s.
The iPhone SE is supposed to sport a 12MP rear camera and a slightly more curved 2.5D glasses, similar to that of iPhone 5s design. The device is expected to offer Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 4.2, a 1642 mAh battery, and 16GB-64GB storage capacities.The device will come in Gold, Silver, and Space Grey colour options
According to analyst Ming Chi Kuo at KGI Securities, the iPhone SE will be priced between $400-$500.
Along with the iPhone SE, rumours are that Apple will showcase its 9.7-inch iPad Pro variant with specifications similar to the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. We will also see the debut of iOS 9.3, OS X 10.11.4, watchOS 2.2, and tvOS 9.2 at the event as well.
