Anand Mahindra is a renowned industrialist in India with more than $16 billion capital. He says that Mahindra group is ready to fund an Indian version of Facebook. This is because the facebook has leaked the data of more than 50 million users. There are reports that Facebook has shared this data with British analytic firm Cambridge Analytica. Cambridge Analytica had later used this data to manipulate the US elections in 2016.
Mr. Mahindra has tweeted that the time has come to develop a separate Indian version of Facebook. He has asked the startups and interested individuals to come up with ideas and suggestions. He wants to set up a separate social networking company in the country. Here, it is also worth mentioning that it is not for the first time that Mahindra Group is doing so. It has done so for many times.
In response to his tweet, a bundle of responses has come up. Even the IT minister has liked his idea of a separate version of Facebook for the Indians. He has asked all the interested startups to copy their replies to Jaspreet Bindra. Jaspreet Bindra is an employee of Mahindra Group. He has given the idea to use blockchain technology for developing such an application.
The social media giant Facebook is under crisis since last week. It had leaked the personal data of about 50 million users and swayed the US elections. India is also among those countries who have taken Facebook to task for this data leakage. India has also threatened to summon the CEO to inquire after this data leakage. Both BJP and Congress are blaming each other for swaying the general elections through this data leakage. The Indian IT Minister says that if it proves, they will sue Facebook.
