Dipa Karmakar, the young lady gymnast who put up an impeccable show in the recently concluded Rio Olympics was gifted a luxurious BMW car by the cricketing legend, Sachin Tendulkar. Badminton player P V Sindhu and wrestler Sakshi Malik was also presented with the same by the Little Master. But now, a sad news has surfaced, as Dipa has decided to return the car due to huge maintenance cost and pathetic road conditions in Tripura.

Dulal Karmakar, father of Dipa commented on this issue, and made it clear that they have decided to replace the car as it is very much difficult to maintain and drive the car in a place like Agarthala. Dulal added that the roads in Tripura are not suitable to drive a car like BMW, and there are no showrooms of the company in the state. He also revealed that there are no experienced drivers in and around their residence who can drive a high end vehicle like BMW.

As per Karmakar, their family is now in talks with BMW and Badminton Association of Hyderabad to replace the vehicle. He told that they will soon buy a car which has showroom and maintenance centre in their hometown. Dipa’s dad also added that they have requested money equivalent to the sum of the car, so that they can buy a new car soon.

According to Dulal, driving a BMW car is quite easy and comfortable in metropolitan cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Chennai. But it is quite hard for a family to maintain such a vehicle in Agartala.

Dipa has not commented on this issue, as she is currently busy with the training programmes for the Challengers Cup which will be conducted in Germany on November 2016.

The 23-year-old gymnast was shot to limelight after attaining fourth position in Women’s Vault Gymnastics event of Rio Olympics 2016 scoring 15.066.
