This Diwali, it was a double celebration with two movies releasing on the same day. Karan Johar’s “Ae dil hai mushkil” and Ajay Devgn’s “Shivaay” are giving each other a real tough competition at the box-office. Normally price of tickets goes higher during festive seasons but this time it is crazily high, as two big personalities are going to release their respective films on the same day.

Normally the price range of tickets is between Rs 150-500, but this time it went up to nearly 30 percent. Morning show ticket price is around Rs 400-450 and the night show tickets cost around Rs 800. Not only this, the online bookings which they opened on Monday have also received an amazing response with a couple of shows being sold out completely. Analysts say that the strong star casts of the movies attract viewers to a larger extent. ADHM is starring Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai and Anushka Sharma, while in “Shivaay” Ajay Devgn is going to be seen playing the main lead along with Saiyesha Sehgal and child artist Abigail Eames.

“Due to festive season, many companies offer, their employees some great bonuses, incentives, which people usually don’t mind spending it on their family outings, movies and many other things. This clearly sets the festive mood and both the filmmakers are cashing in on this. The name of big stars in the movie is another attracting factor”, says Komal Nahta, Trade Analyst.

“People who love going to watch movies don’t mind spending on their favorite movie tickets which is comparatively high from previous year”, says an employee of popular cinema chain, on a condition of anonymity.

Cinepolis Business Head, Devang Sampat, says, “There is a hike in the ticket prices but only five percent as compared to last year, considering that it’s a festive season, the blockbuster ticket pricing is kept in mind”.

Before the release, it seems through the ticket sales that the Ranbir Kapoor-Aishwarya Rai movie has a slight edge. Karan Johar is a multiplex darling. Ajay Devgn’s movie will be released in more mass centers but only spot sales will reveal the real revenue.

“Ae dil hai mushkil” has already received an amazing response from other celebrities who attended the special screening held by its makers. It seems like it would have a slight upper hand, with the kind of buzz around it. Who will come out as the winner? Well, will be declared in few more days.
